Ques 4.Fill in the blanks with suitable words:-
a)Time taken by an object to complete one oscillation is called ------------.
b)Loudness is determined by the ---------- of vibration.
c)The unit of frequency is ---------.
d)Unwanted sound is called --------.
e)Shrillness of a sound is determined by the -----------of vibration.

Answers .
a)Time period
b)Amplitude
c)Hertz
d)Noise
e)Pitch

Ques 5. A pendulum oscillates 40 times in 4 seconds. Find its time period and frequency.

Ans 5. Number of oscillations = 40

Time taken = 4seconds

Frequency = number of oscillations /time

                  = 40/4

                  = 10Hz

Ques 6. The sound from a mosquito is produced when its vibrates its wings at an average rate of 500 vibrations per second. What is the time period of the vibration?

Ans 6. Number of vibration in 1 second = 500

Therefore, frequency = 500Hz

Time period = 1/frequency

                    =1/500

                    =0.002second

Ques7 Identify the part which vibrates to produce sound in the following instruments.
a)Dholak

Ans 9. The sources of noise pollution are automobiles, loud speakers, aeroplanes, machine etc.

Ques 10 .Explain in what way noise pollution is harmful to human.

Ans 10.  Noise pollution causes:-

1)Temporary or permanent deafness

2)Blood pressure

3)Lack of concentration

Ques 11.  Your parents are going to buy a house. They have been offered one on the roadside and another three lanes away from the roadside. Which house would you suggest your parents should buy? Explain your answer.

Ans 11.  I would suggest my parents to buy the house which is three lanes away from the roadside. This would protect us from noise pollution which is maximum at roadside building.

Ans 12.  The other name of larynx is voice is box. It is present at the upper end of the windpipe. The function of larynx is to produce sound.
chapter 13sound

Ques13  Lightening and thunder take place in the sky at the same time and at the same distance from us. Lightening is seen earlier and thunder is heard later. Can you explain why?

Ans 13.The speed of light is much greater than the speed of sound. Hence, lightening is seen earlier and thunder is heard later, even through both are produced at the same time and same place.
